Madonna is the undisputed Queen of Pop
Madonna's talents as an accomplished artist were well showcased during her visit to The BOK Center for her Rebel Heart Tour. It's unfortunate that there wasn't as much of her presence compared to previous tours. Some of her song choices from her most recent album (the namesake of this tour) didn't have the impact that different selections could have offered.
Why overlook songs like "Body Shop," "Heartbreak City," "Holy Water," "S.E.X.," or "Veni, Vidi, Vici"? These songs fit well within the context of "Rebel Heart" (arguably her best work in a decade), but may not necessarily stand out as great songs even in a stunning setting.
"Messiah" deserved a more significant spotlight. Where was Madonna during the performance of one of her finest tracks? The same can be said for "Ghosttown," which sadly wasn't even included in the setlist. It's ironic that a song like "Ghosttown," recognized as Rolling Stone's Readers Poll Song of the Year, was omitted from the tour lineup.
If Madonna aimed to curate a concert featuring her best hits from previous tours, why not include "This Used To Be My Playground" instead of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"? Or opt for "You Must Love Me" over "La Vie En Rose"?
On the flip side, however, attendees were treated to the artist behind the icon at her latest concert. They witnessed the skilled songwriter and performer who remains a hit-making powerhouse. There is only one Queen of Pop, and her name is MADONNA. That's Madonna with a consistent and enduring "Rebel Heart."
